OK so what is an iBrand?
We will come to that in a minute. First let’s start by defining raw talent:
Raw
1. Powerfully Impressive
2. Stark
3. Raw Beauty
4. Raw Talent
5. Untrained and Inexperienced
Talent
1. A marked innate ability, as for artistic accomplishment
2. Natural endowment or ability of a superior quality
3. A person or group of people having such ability
Raw Talent
1. powerfully impressive talent
2. endowment
3. Natural endowment
4. Talent
5. Gift
6. Natural abilities or qualities
We live in the so called information age. If you want to position yourself positively and communicate effectively to cut through all the white noise to get where you want to be personally, socially, spiritually, and professionally you need to ask yourself 5 simple questions.
- Who are you?
- What do you do?
- Where are you going?
- How will you get there?
- How far will you go?
If you have clear defined answer to the first four of the five aforementioned questions there is no telling how far you can go.
Having RAW Talent is one thing but you need to hone that talent and then zone your iBrand.
“Talents are gifts that need to be nurtured, worked with and cherished. Abuse a talent and like all gifts, what you once have can be taken away”.
So what do we mean “zone your brand?” Well you already have a brand… it’s YOU. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, once said “Your brand is what people say about you when you are not in the room.” You need to define who you are, what you are, where you are going and how you are going to get there.
For example, when asked, “What do you do?”
Do you answer
1) “I’m an actress and a singer and some times work in promotions and do the occasional modelling job”
Or do you answer …
2) “I’m a working character actor in TV and theatre”
It may well be true that you are working four jobs but the casting director who just asked you doesn’t really care about all that. It’s not what he asked you. He’s got other priorities. If you answered like the second example , you are talking his language. It’s precise, shows strength and sounds businesslike and confident. Brilliant, now he’s interested, he will engage with you further and will dig a little deeper…
Information Age or Information Overload
If you ask most people any of these five simple opening questions you’ll be surprised to hear the same answers time and time again. You’ll hear everything from the obvious ‘I don’t know’ to long monologues that leave you without the faintest idea of who or what that person is about.
Try it for yourself the next time you meet someone new. Better still, write down the questions and find out how you can communicate who you are and what you do to others more effectively.
We live in an information age, but information that is incoherent isn’t benefiting anyone. I would suggest we live in the communication age!
So naturally, if you can answer these kind of questions with confidence and personality, those people you meet are going to take note and listen to what you have to say and offer. It sounds too easy doesn’t it? You only get 3 seconds to make an impression on someone. Don’t waste them, make a lasting impression.
You will soon start to see, hear and ‘feel’ positive feedback when you present yourself in your definitive way with style and charisma. Then you’ll be marketing your iBrand effortlessly. And when you’re out of the room… well, those you’ve encountered will be marketing your iBrand for you. The old adage still rings true, ‘you can’t beat word of mouth’.
Later, when you have achieved some degree of success, you will also start to pick up some momentum. Not only will you be going places, (figuratively, emotionally and geographically) others will want to join you for the ride and suddenly doors that where once closed to you, you will find are suddenly open.
Nothing like success feeds success. It’s natural to want to be around successful people. They create electricity in the air and can inspire and excite others to emulate their success just by simply being successful themselves. Success should come with a doctor’s note, it’s contagious.
I hope this has inspired you in some small way. Ambition and talent are a heady combination. Are you along for the ride? How far will you go? Well that’s up to you!
