RAW Talent… What Do You Do?
Hello! What’s Your Name and What Do You Do?
A long, long time ago in a hamlet not too far away you would have been known by the job you did in the village. The Butcher, The Baker or the Candlestick Maker for instance!
Fast forward a few hundred years to the early part of the 21st century and find our-selves living in big cities rather than small villages. We are more educated, widely traveled and have acquired more skills and knowledge than you can shake a dirty stick at but by the way we live have lost the sense of community and with it our identity.
‘The sole driving force for many an ambitious artist
is to be heard and seen!’
A question often asked is ‘What do you do?’ This seemingly simple question often results in confusing answers. ‘I’m an actor, singer, presenter, model kinda entrepreneur’. You’ve heard that or variations on the theme before, maybe you’ve even heard yourself saying something similar!
Whoever asked the question ‘What do you do?’ is none the wiser to what it is you actually do. If you don’t know what you do or can’t communicate to others what you do how will anybody else?
This is why you need to define what you do and then focus on your primary talent. Establish yourself as a master of your craft or skill and then set yourself incremental achievable targets until you ultimately get to where you want to be.
Introducing iBrand.
By presenting yourself as an iBrand you will know 4 very powerful things about yourself.
Who you are?
What you do?
Where you are going?
How you are going to get there?
That’s your 4 step plan, your blueprint or your strategy, whatever you like to call it. By adopting this simply iBrand method to you business of one, YOU you’ll find a focus and clarity to everything you do both socially and professionally.
Jumping around from one thing to another, being open to distractions, chasing the next big thing or simply playing catch up will not help you to achieve your full potential. By focusing on one thing, you will spend less time actually getting the results you desire.
When you think of your self as a brand, an iBrand, people will instantly ‘get it’ and the results will be positive. Try defining what it is you do in one sentence.
‘But I do lots of things…’
You still need to present yourself to your audience and the circles you move and groove in as the expert, most exciting, creative, original and the hottest property in demand today for your field of talent.
For example, you are a dancer, singer, model, actress and you have an audition for a dancing role in a West End production. Present your self 100% as a dancer. So now you’ve wowed everyone at the audition with your dancing skills. The Director ask you if you can sing. Tell him you can and offer to sing for him. Now you are adding value to your iBrand.
If you’re an actor with a dozen regional accents on your CV for example, change it to two or three at the most. Very few actors can master so many accents and the truth is there are hundreds of actors from these parts of the country who speak with their natural accent far better than you ever will.
Don’t waste you’re time running from audition to another chasing your tale. Focus on what you do best and you’ll carve out a rewarding career as a character actor.
The Internet is probably the greatest communication medium we will ever know. It connects people from all over the world in all walks of life.
Behind every one of those connections are REAL PEOPLE. People who will be either captivated by what you have to say and offer… or not!
People are making decisions all the time, whether consciously or unconsciously. Are they benefiting or being entertained by what they are doing, viewing or purchasing?
We are all salesmen, and I don’t mean the cheesy door-to-door encyclopedia type of salesman. What I mean is we are all in a sales cycle of life. We buy into and sell emotions, ideas and thoughts every minute of the day and put a value on them without even consciously thinking about it.
That’s why when you present you iBrand to the online world, it will determine your ‘visitor value’. Your visitor value is directly related to how much value your individual visitors sees in your iBrand.
Think of your RAW Talent Classified as the front page of a newspaper. It must start with a relevant and compelling headline and an eye catching photograph.
Follow this with an introductory paragraph that is interesting and leads to some ‘cool stuff’ further down the page..
Set out your message in a clear and focused way with no fluff and let your visitors judge for themselves if what you offer is appealing.
If it is, then your RAW Talent could make you front page news.
